2020 has been a very difficult year for our community. It has been especially hard on our local businesses, charities and not-for-profit organizations. With restrictions placed on events, it will be a challenging holiday for all who count on the giving season to support their year-round initiatives.

Used.ca has always been a champion for community giving. Whether it is providing free advertising, social media promotion or volunteer hours, the Used team is passionate about giving back.

“Without the community, we wouldn’t have Used.ca. It has always been important for us to support local events and organizations. In 2020, we knew it was more important than ever to go the extra mile to support local groups,” says Carly Russell-Huntley, Community Manager at Used.

The team at Used.ca has been supporting BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF) for many years on different giving campaigns, but a long-time staff favourite is the Festival of Trees.

Each year, the Used crew sponsors a tree, decides on a theme, handcrafts the decorations and sends a team to create their holiday tree. But we don’t stop there; staff give countless hours volunteering on the Festival of Trees committee, including Lacey Sheardown, who is the current chair and Carly Russell-Huntley, who manages volunteers for the decorating night.

Our team wants to make this year a huge success and are aiming for a $5,000 fundraising goal! On October 18, we hosted a contactless bottle drive at Archie Browning Arena. Thanks to the community, Used.ca raised over $2,500 that will go directly to BCCHF and got halfway to our goal!

Here are ways that you can help raise funds and awareness for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation:

  • 2020 Festival of Trees – This incredible local event is a key fundraiser for BCCHF. It opens on November 19 at the Bay Centre and runs until January 5, 2021. “Festival of Trees means so much to me personally because it gives us a chance to connect local Victoria businesses to BC Children’s Hospital Foundation in a meaningful way,” explains Shaun Cerisano, Philanthropy Manager for BCCHF. “The event is important because it raises funds for needed equipment and raises awareness about the 3,300 children from Vancouver Island that are treated at BC Children’s Hospital each year.” Consider sponsoring a tree and supporting this great event.
  • November Drive Thru Bottle Drive – Based on the success of the Used.ca bottle drive in October, we are doing it again! Save up your empties and bring them to our contactless bottle drive on November 29 in the parking lot at Archie Browning Arena. Let’s see if we can raise another $2,500 for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation!

We hope you are inspired to find your own way to pay it forward this giving season.
